NBK Patners with SOYA

PRESS RELEASE
19th October 2009

EVENT: PRESENTATION OF A SPONSORSHIP CHEQUE TO SOYA

One of the priority areas of National Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy is support for sporting activities. This is because sports not only unites people from all walks of life, but also provides an avenue for many to realize their God given sporting talents. The Bank has today partnered with the Sportsperson of the Year Awards (SOYA) board to recognize and reward sporting excellence. We are happy to note that that the theme of this year’s SOYA awards is “Using Sports to Conserve the Environment”. This is a timely theme as there is an urgent need for Kenyans to unite and pool our efforts towards environmental conservation. The Bank is happy to be associated with this theme and we are certain that through sports, this message will reach every corner of our country.

The Bank has partnered with SOYA through presentation of a cheque of Ksh one Million towards the 6th edition of SOYA. The cheque was presented by the MD NBK, Mr. Reuben Marambii to SOYA founder, Mr. Paul Tergat flanked by the SOYA panel chairman, Mr. Bismark Mutahi, at the KICC.

The Bank has taken note of the many sports men and women who have flown the Kenyan flag high in many regional and international sporting activities. In order to do this, these groups of people worked tirelessly and pushed their endurance to the limit to emerge victorious. The bank is proud of our sports men and women and supports SOYA’s mandate to reward them at the end of the year.

In June the Bank signed an agreement with Athletics Kenya to sponsor youth athletics programmes. This sponsorship has seen AK train and send bigger contingents to regional and international junior and youth championships. This has in turn enabled the country participate in more athletics categories and ensured the country bagged more medals than in previous years.
