The signing of the agreement between NBK and Athletics Kenya in which the Bank committed Ksh 16.1 million to the development of Kids, youth and Junior Athletics in Kenya has made it possible for Athletics Kenya to send bigger contingents to both the World Youth Athletics Championships and the Africa Junior Athletics Championships. This has given Kenya more medal opportunities in these championships than before. The World Youth Athletics Championships took place between 8th and 12th July, in Bressanone, Italy and our youth team emerged top in the championships with a total of 13 medals. They were accorded a red carpet warm welcome by the Bank and Athletics Kenya on their arrival back to the country on 14th July 2009.
The Junior athletes will be defending their Africa Junior championships title which they won in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 2007. They left the country for Port Louis, Mauritius for the championships scheduled to take place between 30th July and 2nd August 2009.
We hope that they will keep up the wining spirit set by the youth team and bring victory home.
